A World of Pike Flies, by Ad Swier
A World of Pike Flies by Ad Swier
A remarkable gathering of streamers, dreamers, feathers, fur, colour and pike
This is another wonderful publication from world renowned artist and Pike-Fly expert Ad Swier.
Forwarded by David Wolsencroft-Dodds, Ad Swier has put together 208 pages of information to whet the appetite of all anglers, and not just the fluff-chucking enthusiasts.
There are hundreds of beautifully photographed images including a wealth of pike flies from around the pike angling world.
Although there isn’t any step-by-step instructions on how to tie these flies, the numerous images are superb to give both expert and novice fly tiers plenty of ideas to either copy patterns or experiment further.
Many of the flies come with their own short story on how they were developed, mutated from other patterns or simply borne out of necessity. Ad has included some lovely anecdotes, along with old sayings and phrases that help the book flow in a down to earth and sentimental manner. His passion and love for the discipline shines through, as does the additional pieces from the contributors.
“However beautiful pike flies may be, nothing gets me more excited than a demolished one”-(Raymond Noordermeer)
He has also touched on all subjects relating to pike on the fly including rods, reels, lines, leaders, traces and fly tying materials. The images are excellent, and many will carry you away to your own memories of times on the water in search of Esox. This selection of pike flies have accounted for thousands of catches around the world. There is also a rogue’s gallery of exceptional catches towards the back of the book.
This hardback is set to become another classic angling read, and very much one for the collector. If pike on the fly is your thing, reading this is a must. For all other anglers, treat yourself, you never know, you may be persuaded to join the brotherhood of happy fluff-chucker’s, try saying that after a few Black Bushes! A beautifully illustrated book, well recommended.
